South Wigston High School

Brief:

MAC Construction Consultants were appointed by South Wigston High School to oversee a roofing replacement scheme. Acting as Consultant, MAC commissioned Langley Waterproofing Systems to carry out a roof condition survey, collating details about the state of the roofing and the requirements for improvement.

It was revealed that 17 flat roofs failed to comply with current thermal performance, and a number of these roofs were found to be leaking.

Key Challenges:

Following Langley’s roof condition survey and report, MAC successfully put forward a CIF bid for the school to receive funding.

As with any large-scale school project, MAC faced the logistical difficulties of ensuring minimal disruption as the site remained open to pupils and staff. Effective collaboration between on site management and Langley’s team helped to ensure that disturbances were kept to a minimum.

MAC commissioned Langley Roofing, who in turn contracted Central Roofing & Building Services, to carry out the scheme. In addition to the roofing replacements, lead outlets, flashings and chutes were upgraded and replaced with Code 5 lead. Parapets were overclad in ply, and integral gutters were upgraded and insulated.

Results:

South Wigston High School now comprises an estate of high performing waterproofed flat roofs, which will keep students safe and warm for many years to come. The project was delivered on time and within budget thanks to our effective partnership with Langley’s team.
