University of Leeds – Sir William Henry Bragg Building
Brief
MAC was appointed to work alongside ADP Architecture to deliver Access and Inclusion Consultancy services on the Sir William Henry Bragg Building at University of Leeds.
Key Challenges
The Sir Willian Henry Bragg building has been the University’s largest single investment in its history.
There were several key science facilities that were no longer fit for purpose, and so the new addition needed to encourage collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering and Schools of Physics and Chemistry into a single building.
MAC’s Safety, Health and Environment team was appointed to carry out design appraisals and guidance, as well as to develop ‘Access Strategies’.
Results
The Bragg Building is now fully equipped with clean rooms and low vibration facilities, as well as spaces that allow for studies into radiation, optics, low temperatures, and bio-nano chemistry.
The MAC team ensured the new facilities remained accessible and inclusive whilst being considerate of budget constraints and the required end quality.
The completed building now stands as a brilliant addition to the campus and will position the University as a world leading research platform.
